Pizza box - the typical form we now know and love: 16 inches by 18 inches and approximately two-inches thick, made from B-fluted corrugated board.

What's the problem?
GreenBox multi-purpose, efficient box
  • Ask - give the traditional pizza box a second chance
  • Imagine - The box was designed with functionality in mind, able to be used as plates when guests arrive- saving the paper plates for another day. The box can also be reconfigured into a compact storage container.

Consider this
  • sizes - nano, small, medium, large and enormous items
  • material - paper, plastic, metal, glass, bamboo etc.
  • function – basic necessities, enriching/entertaining/educational objects, commercial/business products, health/grooming
  • form – cartons, bottles, tubes, capsules, barrels, boxes, baskets, bags, jars, cans, tanks

Do It
Challenges for you to work on...
  • brainstorm other kinds of containers (in the broadest sense of the word) and investigate how they came to be. (For example eggs/milk/cereal/juice cartons, trash/oil/cracker barrels, paper/plastic/fabric bags, trailer trucks, rail cars, containers ships, oil tankers, baskets for fruit/flowers/vegies, puzzle/game/toy/lunch boxes, toothpaste/superglue tubes, toilet paper/aluminum foil rolls, food cans/jars/boxes, back backs, wallets, purses, suitcases, cell phone cases, propane/gasoline tanks, etc.)

  • design a new/better/more interesting one and/or to design a useful/artistic/creative use for recycled containers.

  • explore some containers found in nature: eggs, chrysalis, nuts, seeds, kangaroo/seahorse pouches, skulls, river beds, geodes, living cells, etc.
